Course Number and Description
AHET-101: The American Heavy Equipment Training Course is a 20 training day, 200 hour course that consist of four pieces of heavy equipment and is broken down into four phases of training. Each phase of training is designed to provide maximum training on each piece of heavy equipment. Fundamental knowledge is taught in a highly structured classroom lecture and then reinforced with hands-on laboratory(field) operations. IN each phase, students learn the capabilities, operators maintenance, basic operating procedures, and safety requirements on a specific type of heavy equipment. Once a student has mastered the basic operating principles, they are then entered into an interactive training stage.
The interactive stage of training consist of students from two(2) or more phases of training coupled together to operate their current piece of equipment in an earth moving/work-site scenario. This situational application of equipment operations will key on safety, work-site awareness, reinforce basic operating principles, and provide experience and understanding as the students work together to accomplish an earth moving task. Each phase will conclude with a performance and written test to measure student skill and knowledge retention. Students must satisfactorily complete each phase of training to move on to the next phase.

American Heavy Equipment Training Course

Training Standards:
Training standards will be laid out in the objective statement for each phase of training. The objective statement will clearly state what the students capability and knowledge will be at the end of each phase of training. Although the course is laid out in hours, American Heavy Equipment Training's focus will be to "Train to the standard and not time." Simply stated, if a student meets the objective and they can perform the standard, but circumstances prevent them from completing the hours in a block, they will be allowed to progress to training. Performing to the standard also includes the minimum requirements in our Grading System and Satisfactory Academic Progress.

Training Deviations:
American Heavy Equipment Training reserves the right to deviate from the established training schedule/course chart in the event of inclement weather or any other unforeseen circumstance. If weather/equipment malfunctions prevents laboratory operations, training will be conducted in the classroom until laboratory operations can continue.

Instructor/Student Ratio
American Heavy Equipment Training will attempt to maintain the following Instructor/student ratio:

Classroom:1 instructor for every 15 students
Laboratory:1 instructor to 4 pieces of equipment/4 students(see note)

NOTE: If the heavy equipment is available, Instructor to student ratio in the Laboratory may increase to 5 pieces of heavy equipment per Instructor with the use of radio communications between instructors and students.

Student to Equipment Ratio:
American Heavy Equipment Training will attempt to maintain the following student/equipment ratio:

Equipment:3 students for every 1 piece of equipment

Class size will normally be based on a 3 to 1 student to equipment ratio. The optimum class size will be based on student load and equipment on hand. American Heavy Equipment Training will adjust class sizes to meet industry/student demands based on the above cited ratios.

Completion Requirements:
Students who successfully meet all academic, performance, and drug testing standards through out the 200 hour American Heavy Equipment Training course, will be awarded a Certificate of training and a qualifications worksheet outlining the training completed. Those students that do not meet the minimum requirements are not eligible for a Certificate of training.
